This is really more whimsy. And it's kind of embarrassing. But if you can't talk about embarrassing things on the world wide web, where hardly anyone can find out about them, well, where can you.
In about twenty minutes, ESPN classics is going to run their Sport's Century hour long special on Secretariat. If you've never seen it, I recommend you tune in now. If you don't have ESPN, I recommend you subscribe quickly.
I'm not even a horse person. I don't ride, and I don't go to the track, and I don't care. But, good lord, every time I've seen this thing, and they get to the Belmont, and the track announcer says, "Secretariat moving like a tremendous machine", well, I get weepy.
It's really amazing.
Never mind the end, where they tell where you where so much of Secretariat's heart came from...
That is embarrassing.

Churchill Downs. I was there. In a box seat right at the finish line, not 3 feet from the track. (Although the serious partying goes on in the infield.)
Pays to know people in the right places.
